How to start a movement

After Mr Reardon's assembly this morning I was thinking about how you start a movement of people. Movember has worked really well and I came across this campaign

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes isn't simply a stunt - it's a statement about men's role in ending violence against women; an issue that is connected to strict gender roles and expectations of men. By wearing heels and acting in solidarity with women, we want to show that we'll do whatever it takes to make this a safer world for everyone.

What are your thoughts about how you would start a campaign? How can you change people's attitudes to a situation?

Summer work for Ms Harford

Pretty Posters

Create a poster on A2 sized paper. It can either be about an aspect of science (e.g. Fraud, Hypothetico-Deductive method, Falsifiability, Empiricism, Replicability or Objectivity) or on a particular case study of a pseudo scientific claim (see http://www.badscience.net/ or track down a dodgy nutritional product for example).

Please include
1) original research
2) pretty pictures and creative illustrations
3) key facts that anyone can access.

I will mark based on

a) presentation
b) depth of research
c) clarity of content

DO NOT PLAGIARISE - i.e. do not copy and paste ANYTHING!! Everything must be written in your own words.

For next Monday's extension session

So as a follow on from Monday - here is what I would like you to think about -

What was the driving force in the evolution of our big brain? There are a variety of theories (opposable thumbs, language, group size etc). Have a little look and come with some evidence to support your argument.

To get you thinking here is a sketch on the origins of language :)

Psychology Extension Group

Dear all,

As of next week I will be running an extension session Monday lunch times H9 at 1.15. The session will be on off-syllabus Psychology and for the first few weeks I will be looking at the idea of language. I hope this will bring us to a number of questions

  • do animals have language?
  • Are we born as a blank slate?
  • Why are people anxious about determinism?
  • How does the brain process language?
  • Does language determine thought?

Please note these sessions will not be related to the AQA syllabus and are instead an opportunity for pure extension :). Please bring a pen.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Calling year 12 Psychologists!

Hi all Year 12's

This is a cambridge comp for psychology. There are 2 possible questions and the gender one is fantastic (and I'd be happy to chat to you about).  If you are interested see me or Mr Emmet for further details.

1)   Are gender differences fact or fiction? Discuss with respect to at least two distinct measures or traits.” Suggested starting point for reading: www.cordeliafine.com/delusions_of_gender.html
or
2)   “What is meant by the term 'good-enough' parenting, and how might this construct be useful from EITHER a theoretical OR a practical perspective?” Suggested starting point for reading:
